Shawl of woven silk with a most complex design. The salient features are a series of columns supporting solid arches of pattern. In the centre, insubstantial ornament is displayed, like fan vaulting, on a plain ground. From one direction, a vault of green, a larger vault of black and a very large central vault of cream spread out to meet only the columns and fillings from the other end. Columns, arches and spaces are completely filled with the most complex cone, flower and geometrical patterns.
Soft red, mid green, mid blue, plae green, black and mustard yellow are predominant. In each corner of the end band are the royal arms of England with the Garter motto. On two sides, the arms are reversed.
