  • Subst. fém. Empr. au turc tülbent "turban" (en raison de la forme de la fleur), et celui-ci au persan dulband "turban". Plante de la famille des Liliacées, avec une racine bulbeuse, surmontée d'une longue tige portant une grande fleur en forme d'urne, dôtée de six divisions colorées. Motif qui apparaît souvent dans les tissus. La tulipe est aussi un galbe donné à la corniche et au tiroir supérieur des armoires, secrétaires et commodes Restauration et Louis-Philippe. (fr)
