Border fragment of embroidered cotton with couched metal thread and coloured silk in satin stitch, and embroidered through a cotton canvas backing to which glue or size has been applied to secure the threads. Remains of black silk and silver-gilt threads down the left hand side indicates that this was part of a border. It is not possible to see the ground fabric but threads down the right hand side suggest it might be indigo-dyed plain weave cotton. Incomplete design; in the upper part is a rigid green and red vertical stem with two pairs of leaves and one stylised pointed petalled flower with a dark blue, blue and red heart-shaped centre. There are small leaves or buds in green, dark blue and red. In the lower part is a large silver trefoil which is the top of another motif. Embroidery thread: 2Z silk: dark blue, blue, green, white, light brown and dark green; 2S red silk. Metal thread: Silver strip close S-wound on white silk and silver strip close S-wound on yellow silk. Couching worked with dark red silk.
