This mask forms part of a Japanese suit of armour and is made of iron. It has been hammered from behind using the repousse technique. The throat-guard is of lacquered plates laced with silk and it has a patterned silk and leather attachment. The mask went on display at an exhibition entitled 'Japanese Lacquer and Metalwork', held at the Burlington Fine Arts Club in 1894.
