  • Shawl of fine wool weft and cotton warp, printed with two patterns, one on each side of a central dividing line, in the same colouring and made up of the same basic pattern elements. On one side of the central medallion made up of cones and rosettes with floral fillings is repeated in halves and quarters radiating out to the borders. On the other, the motifs of the medallion are repeated in a wavy band circling the field, and the interspaces are filled with a new pattern element. The colours are a vivid jade green, bright mid-blue, pink, red, orange, brown, buff, black and white. The side with fragmented medallions has a quartered ground of green, red and white (2 squares) and the other side has a white ground with a band in green. The ends have a knotted silk fringe sewn into then. The shawl was made to be worn folded in half with one corner thrown back in a triangle at the top. This triangle is weighted with tassels, two of white silk, one of dark blue and white silk. (en)
