The petticoat is made of 7 panels of silk with pocket openings at the side seams. There is a wide box pleat with pleats on either side at the centre front and an inverse box pleat with pleats on either side at the centre back. The hem is bound with \u00BE inch (2 cm) wide blue silk ribbon and the waist with \u215E-inch (2.1 cm) wide linen tape.\n\nThe petticoat was altered in the late 19th century for fancy dress.
