Cross-shaped fixtures or painted marks in Catholic churches, most often on the walls or columns at the places consecrated with chrism during the consecration of the church. The symbolism for the crosses is laid out in liturgical treatises, such as the "Rationale" of Durandus; there are twelve consecration crosses to symbolize the twelve apostles.
