Se refiere a la pintura, escultura, artes gráficas y arquitectura desarrolladas desde el siglo XIX hasta el presente y se caracteriza por rechazar las formas de arte tradicional y convencional. Es típico reflejo de cambio social, económico e intelectual. El arte moderno incluye numerosas teorías y moviemientos. Se diferencia del arte contemporáneo, que no implica un estilo no tradicional, sino que por el contrario se refiere solamente al período en el cual el trabajo fue creado. Moderno y contemporáneo son intrínsecamente términos fluídos.
