Umbrella with a black cotton cover, silver knob and wooden handle, made in Birmingham, 1880s Umbrella with a hallmarked silver expanded knob handle with an incised curvilinear design, a stained wood handle with silver washer and a black cotton cover with a label inside the apex. The tip is of stained black wood, the ribs of hollow section blackened metal, the tins of tortoiseshell and the catches are of blackened wire. There is a plaited black silk carrying loop and the cover can be caught with a black elastic tag, and with a metal loop and button to fasten.
