This pattern could be compared with the diagrams in St Aubin's treatise on embroidery. Chasuble of embroidered satin, possibly Austrian, 1700-1799 Chasuble of purple satin embroidered in coloured silks and silver thread, with applied silver braid and narrow silver fringe. The silver embroidery forms a symmetrical pattern of scrolls couched in different ways for a variety of textures. Naturalistic flowers, including narcissi, carnations and tulips, grow out of them with butterflies worked mostly in long and short stitch in brightly coloured silk thread. The chasuble is lined with purple silk twill.
