Shawl of woven silk. The pattern consists of wide stripes of angular exotic flowers. The pattern of the stripes are identical, but the colours alternate red with pink-cream and white, and red with blue and white. Between these stripes are narrower strips of pale yellow. A silk fringe of cream, red and blue twisted strands is knotted into all four side of the shawl. The patterned stripes are formed by two pattern wefts bound in various twills by a portion of the white silk warp, or carried as floats on the front across areas of warp-faced satin. The yellow stripes are a warp-faced satin of 8, taking colour from the thicker weft threads. Shawl of woven silk, France, ca. 1825-1850
