Textile fragment of woven silk. With a chinoiserie design in mauve damask and gold thread. The damask pattern consists of floral motifs and a jug from which water is pouring into a pitcher. The design shows a lion resting under a parasol with a palm tree on his right. This motif is connected by a tenuous sequence of bizarre shapes to a group of floral motifs and a small satyr carrying a torch.
The damask pattern is formed by a weft-faced twill on a satin of 5 warp-faced ground. The metal thread is brocaded and bound in 4/1 twill by a proportion of the warp threads. It is made from a silver gilt strip S wound on a yellow silk core.
The silk is make up from five fragments which have been joined together.
