The designer Wilhelm (William Charles Pitcher RI, 1858-1925) was one of the most inventive and prolific late 19th century costume designers, whose early passion for stage spectacle led to his employment designing pantomime costumes for Drury Lane Theatre. His attention to detail and his ability to create visually stunning and decorative costumes appealed to producers and public alike and led to a constant stream of work. Costume design by Wilhelm for The Past and The Future. The Past wears a white floor length dress, a grey toga with hood and a purple floral wreath. The Future wears a sky blue floor length skirt with wrap, white and green bodice and a head piece in the pantomime <i>Dick Whittington</i> as performed at the New Olympic Theatre on 26th December 1892. On the reverse are notes written in pencil and a piece of light blue silk attached to the paper with glue.
