Doublet for an older boy or young man, of black silk grosgrain, interlined with linen and lined with black silk twill. It has a 2¼-inch (5.4 cm) collar, ½-inch (1.25 cm) deep shoulder wings, curving 2-piece sleeves, with a high waist and 8 laps below the waist. The belly pieces are made of pasteboard stitched between layers of linen and covered with the black silk twill. The doublet is decorated with ⅜-inch (8 mm) wide black silk bobbin lace, in parallel rows of 3, edging the seams and laps, under the armholes, on the fronts. A single row of lace covers the shoulder wings. There are 4 worked buttonholes on each sleeve, 24 on the left front and 4 button loops of braided black silk on the left collar. The buttons have a domed wooden core covered with black silk floss; only the core of 2 remain. Inside at the waist is a band of linen covered with black silk twill, with 12 metal eyes. There is a separate tab of black silk with a single metal eye at the inside waist of each front. The black silk is disintegrating and there are large areas where it is completely lost.
