Needlecase of embroidered canvas in silks, England, 1710 Needlecase of embroidered canvas in silks with two metal fasteners and trimmed with silver gilt thread. Lined with a green, red and white woven dress silk of ca. 1710, the inside of the case has six red flannel 'leaves' for needles. The inside of the case is lined with gold-coloured silk braid. The outside front panel is embroidered in cross-stitches with a design of a vase of flowers in pinks, green and yellow. The back shows a stylised floral sprig design. Both are worked on a pale blue ground. On the spine of the case is embroidered the initials 'T.H.' interspaced with the date '1710', a heart and two diamond shaped motifs, all in orange silk.
