Embroidered panel of salmon pink furnishing satin, with cotton warp, embroidered with floss silk in mainly pastel shades of blue, grey, white, green, yellow, pink, mauve, brown and beige. The stitches used include long and short, satin and stem stitches with French knots and a little lattice filling work.
There is a Baroque design, developing symmetrically from a central column of exotic shapes and fruit. The coiling, leafy stems which cover the ground bear carnations, grapes, strawberries, tulips, peonies and other exotic flowers.
Although the design and method of embroidery are very close to late 17th century Italian work, the colouring, particularly of the ground fabric, the unusual size of the piece, and that the piece has never been mounted, suggests that it is a late 19th century copy of this style.
