Man's coat of figured brown silk with an all-over design of diamond checks in dull gold and pale blue. The front has a pronounced curve and the tails are square cut with the centre lapped vent flanked by shallow pleats, at the top of which are stitched self covered buttons. The pockets have a narrow and shallow scalloped flap trimmed with three vertical mock stitched button holes and trimmed with three self covered buttons. The cuffs are flaring deep but of width of arm only. There is a medium wide band collar. The buttons are all self covered and only the top two button holes on front are intended to fasten. The lining is of white silk and hand-quilted over the back and forepart. The back vent is reinforced with a small square of black silk. Tacking stitches remain on the front edges. Man's coat of figured silk, possibly made in England, ca. 1800
