Apron of embroidered silk, England, 1850-1859. Long apron of brown silk embroidered with bright, coloured silks in satin and stem stitch with french knots and a little laid and couched work. The straight waistband is backed with linen and has a line of piping along the lower edge. In the centre is a spray of rose and flower buds. The straight apron panel is pleated into the waistband and has two slit pockets edged with piping, encircled by an embroidered line of flowers and each decorated with a green silk tassel. A curving trail of flowers, leaves and wheat-ears runs from below each pocket slit round the lower part of the apron. The apron is entirely hand-stitched. It fastens with two brass hooks and eyes.
