Long shawl of printed silk gauze. Printed all over with a repeating pattern of oval medallions outlined by small cones set like jewels in compartments also formed by trails of small cones. Fillings cover all the inside of these compartments. There is a narrow border of repeated cartouches of varying shapes. The colours are red, pink, orange, blue and green with some black and white, and the narrow edges of the shawl is dyed maroon. The warp and weft stripes of silk enliven the surface of the open weave. A silk fringe is knotted in to the two ends. Long shawl of printed silk gauze, made by Swaisland Print Works, Crayford, ca. 1855.
