In 1912 the tapestry was in the possession of Arthur Morton Grenfell; it was said to have been bought in Paris, with Russian provenance, but there is no evidence for this. Sold at Christies, 30 January 1919 lot 133 with a related tapestry, to Frank Partridge, from whom both were purchased by the Hon Henry and Mrs McLaren (became 2nd Baron Aberconway and Christabel, Lady Aberconway). The tapestry went from them by descent to the vendor from whom the Museum purchased it.
