Stocking purse knitted in silk, England, ca. 1800Stocking purse knitted in silk in garter stitch in stripes of brown and yellow. The strip of knitting is joined to form a tube, and a hole being left in the centre for the insertion of money. The purse is fastened by two gold bands ornamented with beadwork and a formal foliage design on a matted background. At each end is a seal in a gold setting, one a turquoise inscribed 'L X' with a tree and the other, an amethyst inscribed with a ship in full sail.
