F, embroidered, 1800-1860, PersianPlain weave cotton embroidered with silk in straight stitches.
Directional design with the top of the pattern at the bottom of the panel, so that the wearer saw the correct pattern. Displayed behind glass. Displayed upside down.
There is a border along the bottom and part way up the sides. It has a white ground with a pink and red flower pointing to the lower left along the bottom, and to the lower right down the right hand side and the upper left on the left hand side sections. There are three small round flowers in mauve to the right of each pink flower. The lower border has a narrow band above and below it containing pairs of pink or white shapes.
The pattern is a series of diagonal lines from lower right to upper left pattern with chevrons in blue and green.
There are two sizes of stripes:
[1] narrow stripes: white ground with an angled striped stem and pink blossom pointing to the lower right alternating with a shorter angled stem and downward pointing group of three brown and white flowerheads.
[2] wider stripe in two designs: [a] green ground with pink vase, pair of pink leaves, small 3-petalled pink flower encircled by small pale flowers, 2 pink carnations and a brown flower alternating with pink vase, pair of white and light blue flowers, large central pink blossom between 2 small blue and brown star-like ones, a bird on the pink blossom, a pink blossom to either side, then 2 white and light blue ones and another pink one. [b] green ground with pink vase, pair of pink leaves, large central pink blossom between 2 sprays of white flowers, 2 small pink flowers and a round group of white ones alternating with pink vase, 2 pink trefoil flowers, brownish iris [?] in the centre, 2 pale star-like flowers above and 2 pink ones to the outer side of them, a pink rosette, 2 diagonally placed pointed cartouches and a large pink pointed blossom, with 2 lines of white flowers forming part of a diamond outline.
