Dress fabric of woven silk, Spitalfields, London, ca. 1760.Dress fabric of woven silk. Meandering stems of berries with a ribbon twist form a loose lattice into which one bold flower-head springs. There are four repeats in the width of the material. The pattern is woven with a flush pattern warp of white silk, bound on the back at intervals, on a taffeta ground of purplish-blue. The selvedge contains some threads of pink silk.
