On a pale yellow ground is a sprawling stem of large leaves filling width and length of this fragment. This stem bears many flowers of different types (peonies, bell-shaped flowers and small five-petalled flowers) in shade of pink, purple, orange and yellow, green and white. Two birds with purple and yellow plumage fly between the leaves, possibly pursuing insects (there are holes cut in the silk preventing complete reading of the design). The selvage is woven with two stripes of salmon pink silk.Fragment of painted silk, China, 18th century
