The silk is woven with a series of borders in black cut and uncut velvet on a purple taffeta ground. Each band of decoration is separated by 6 inches of plain silk. The design consists of floral motifs repeated twice in the width of the fabric. On one edge of the silk is a ticket.
The fabric is wound on a roller on which there is a length of plain silk of the same colour and quality.
The velvet warp is cut at both ends of the decorative bands and does not continue in the ground of the plain areas between.
