Woman’s petticoat of ivory silk taffeta, lined with undyed glazed worsted and wadded with a thin layer of wool. It is quilted in running stitch with white silk thread in a narrow horizontal border of scrolls and leaves around the hem, underneath large ogee arches with thistles, and trailing vines with floral sprigs above. The petticoat is made of 6 panels of silk with pocket openings in the side seams, bound with ¾-inch (1.8 cm) wide beige silk ribbon. The same ribbon binds the hem. The waist of the petticoat was altered in the late 19th century, when it was used as a studio prop.
