This silk bedspread is formed by three lengths of fabric, each the width of the loom. It was the property of the King family of Madingley Hall, near Cambridge, before the V&A acquired it. In the 18th century the house was the home of the Cotton family. At least one family member, Admiral Sir Charles Cotton, visited East Asia in 1770-1772.
