Now quite abraded, the yellow silk threads of this compound weave were wrapped in silver foil, which would have made the textile especially luxurious. A silver-brocaded textile with a similar pattern of crosses and seraphim, albeit in a different weaving technique, was brought to Moscow from Istanbul by Russian envoys in 1634.
