Shawl of woven silk. The pattern consists of stripes of varying widths closely covered with a minute continuous pattern. The sequence of stripes is repeated every 7.5 inches. They run as follows: (a) 0.5 inch stripe with a meandering stem bearing leaf shapes, in red, black and yellow. (b) Narrow bright blue stripe with tiny red and yellow crescents. (c) Broad red stripe with a more sprawling stem and leaf meander in yellow, black and red. (d) as (b) (e) as (a) but in red, black and white. (f)(g)(h) Green, black and blue ground stripes linked by a scrolling stem set diagonally across them, and with two round flowerhead on the black stripe in red and yellow. At each end of the shawl, before the red silk warp is knotted into the fringe, is an edging pattern of formal flower sprigs in green and yellow. The pattern is formed both with the red silk warp and with the different coloured silk wefts used two or three to the stripe, and with the unwanted colours left as short floats on the back. One weft of each stripe is carried through to a green silk warp selvedge, and the other one or two being returned round a red silk cord on the inside of the selvedge.
