Rectangular enamelled gold notebook, both covers and spine engraved with strapwork, foliage and flowers in opaque white and translucent green. Each cover is set with a hinged reserve, one painted with three ladies and a gentleman picnicking, opening to reveal a watch with a white enamel dial set on a gold plate; the other is painted with country girls, a child and a young man, and conceals a miniature, under glass, of the Palais Royale in Paris, lined in grey silk and containing notepaper, each edge with three rings through which an engraved gold pencil slides to close the notebook.
