Adhesive tape used to increase grip or friction, made from cloth impregnated with rubber-based adhesive. Because the cloth is impregnated with adhesive it is tacky on both sides. Common uses to wrap it around the blade of a hockey stick, around the handle of a softball or baseball bat, or as a base when wrapping a bicycle handlebar with handlebar tape. In the past, friction tape was widely used by electricians because secondary properties include electrical insulation and protection from liquids and corrosion (today PVC electrical tape has replaced it). For tape intended for electrical insulation, use "electric tape." (en)
