Ikat scarf of striped material divided into 41/2" bands alternately of plain linen and of linen and silk striped red, green, blue and yellow with lines of silver. The warp threads have been twisted and plaited at the ends to form vandycked 'fringes'. The three plain linen bands have been embroidered with silver and silver-gilt thread and coloured silk in shades of pink, green, blue, black, brown, yellow and mauve in stem, long and short running stitches. There are a series of scenes apparently depicting a story concerning a young man who becomes a soldier and who has a series of military and amatory adventures. The figures are dressed in costumes of late 18th century Spanish style.
