  • Woman's petticoat of pale green silk satin lined with glazed undyed wool and wadded with a thin layer of wool. It is quilted in running stitch with pale green silk thread in a border of undulating vines with abstract fruit and flowers, with tiers of ogee arches above. The petticoat is made of 6 panels of silk, with pocket openings cut into the side panels, bound with 1-inch (2.5 cm) wide pale green silk ribbon. There is a wide box pleat at centre front, with side pleats and an inverted box pleat at centre back with side pleats. The back waist has been pieced with a pale green silk taffeta. The petticoat was altered in the late 19th century, probably for a studio prop. The original waist binding and ties were removed and replaced with linen tape. (en)

  • A woman's gown of plain, beige silk. The gown is in the English (tight-back) style, open at the front with pleated robings to the waist, and elbow-length sleeves with narrow pleated cuffs. The bodice and sleeves are lined with unbleached linen. The bodice lining has nine eyelets on either side of the front. The pleats at the back are stitched down and the skirt is pleated into the waist seam. The gown is made of seven widths of silk and the skirt faced with white silk taffeta at the hem. A woven lace (braid) of white silk gimp edges the sleeve cuffs. The gauze sleeve ruffles and three pairs of beige silk ribbons at the front of the bodice lining were added later for fancy dress or historical tableaux. (en)
