  • Woven silk, twill weave, cut to shape and backed with cotton twill. Warp: blue, black and pink silk, Z-twist Weft: white, red, yellow and dark green silk, Z-twist Striped pattern: [1] red ground with a thin and stiff red and white dotted meander outlined in black and yellow bearing the occasional black quatrefoils outlined in white. On top of this is a second meander of joined botehs with a floral spray infill, alternately on a white ground outlined in red, yellow, dark green and yellow or on a yellow ground outlined in red, dark green and white. [2] a narrow blue stripe with a continuous line of stylised floral motifs in red and yellow edged in dark green. [3] a wider stripe of black with a thick meander of red edged in yellow containing occasional small floral motifs in yellow, white and dark green. On top of this is a boteh in red, yellow and dark green. [4] as [2] [5] as [1]. There is a backing of rather heavy beige cotton twill kept in place by a few black stitches. There are long weft floats on the back of the patterned fabric. This is an interesting piece because of the way that colours in the warp and weft are placed or combined to create different shades.
