Man’s sleeved waistcoat, the fronts and back are made of pink silk satin, brocaded with silver thread in a repeating design of large curvilinear motifs. It has a round neckline, straight fronts and skirts reaching to the top of the knee. Each front has a pocket and pocket flap. The curved sleeves are made of brown glazed worsted with cuffs of the pink satin with a vertical opening. The waistcoat and pocket flaps are lined with pink silk sarsenet, the sleeves and pockets with linen and fustian. The neck, fronts, hems, pocket flaps and cuffs are edged with silver cord. There are 14 buttonholes bound with silver cord along the left front, 4 on each pocket flap and 1 on each cuff with 14 corresponding silver-covered buttons on the right front , 4 below each pocket (1 on left side missing) and 1 on each cuff. The waistcoat was probably worn as theatre costume in the late 19th century; the lining and left sleeve are patched and mended.
