  • Cushion cover of embroidered silk, England, ca. 1880 (en)
  • Cushion cover with central embroidered panel and wide border of olive green silk plush. The edge of the cushion is trimmed with a silk cord in brown, red, gold and white and has a brown 'artsilk' frill. Each corner is trimmed with loops of braid and elaborate tassels in green, gold and red silk with five silk pompoms. The cushion is back with olive green silk plush. The central inset embroidered panel is worked in canvas embroidery showing squares of three-dimensional plush technique worked in shaded wools. The pattern shows lines of squares in predominating shades of red, green, brown and yellow alternating with yellow, brown, black, pink and mauve. Between each line of plush worked squares, ground stitches worked in red and white silk can be seen. The embroidered panel lined with cotton and one edge of the cushion has been unpicked. (en)
