  • Man’s waistcoat with a 2½-inch standing collar (6.5 cm), revers, straight fronts and hem, hip-length, with a welted pocket on each front. The fronts, collar, revers and pocket welts are made of white silk with a wide satin stripe, woven-to-shape with silk in shades of green and purple in a pattern of abstract leaves and ovals in vertical bands on the collar, revers, pocket welts and on the front edges and along the hems. The fronts and pockets are lined with linen. The waistcoat has a double-breasted effect with 11 gold-coloured metal buttons (1 missing) set back from 12 worked buttonholes along the left front with 12 buttons of the same set back from the edge of the right front. The waistcoat was altered in the late 19th century, probably as a studio prop; the back was replaced. (en)
