  • Dalmatic of woven silks, Spitalfields, England, 1760-1770 (the silks). (en)
  • Dalmatic made from pieces of two silks of different pattern with silver brocade on a blue silk ground. These panels and the vestment as a whole are edged with silver braid. The sleeves are not joined underneath but fasten with loops and toggles braided in white, red and yellow silk. The sides of the dalmatic are not joined, but lined with coarse white linen. The Silks: The main body of the dalmatic is in a pale blue silk with a comber repeat of meandering multiple stems brocaded in silver thread file and frise. In between, a portion of the blue weft is unbound. These stems depict large leaves and flowers in silver, file, frise and strip, and smaller leaves and flowers in blue and white silk flush. The silk on the skirt and sleeves is of a slightly deeper blue, with thinner meandering stems of silver frise depicting flowers in silver file, frise and strip on a ribbed ground with a pattern of wider meandering stems filled with lattice pattern and stems of flowers, all in ground colour.
