Picture made of embroidered silk with floss silk depicting the memorial well at Cawnpore (modern Kanpur) for the Cawnpore Massacre. Raised embroidery on silk, inscribed and dated with 'Sacred to the perpetual memory of a great company of Christian people - chiefly women and children - who, near this spot, were cruelly massacred by the followers of the rebel Nana Dhoondoput of Bhitoor, and cast, the dying with the dead into the well on the XVth day of July 1857'. The colours are mainly in blue and burnished gold on a natural ground.
