This border is flanked by narrow strips of orange, yellow and black plain weave cotton. The wide outer border is striped satin: red and pale yellow with a pattern of isolated flowers; some stripes include metal thread [silver strip open S-wound on a silk core] There is a square of velvet in each corner, some have been pieced: red velvet on a ground woven with metal thread [silver strip open S-wound on a silk core]. Diamond grid with a large rosette at the junctions and with a leaf growing from the grid; the velvet forms the ground of the compartments. The inner border is interlined with a variety of fabrics: a plain weave red cotton printed with a floral pattern [possibly European], a red woollen twill and a band of plain weave brown cotton printed with a floral spray in light blue. Backing: green shot silk with black. Facing: bias cut blue satin.
