Scarf of fine silk, machine-knitted on a stocking frame with alternating horizontal bands of plain stocking stitch and of spider mesh. The scarf is also patterned by bands of different coloured silks: broad bands of olive green, pale mauve, pale blue and yellow. These are separated by bands of white silk, decorated with narrow lines of mixed green and black and red and black. The two halves of the scarf are identical. Both ends are gathered round a small button and are decorated with silk-covered wooden tassels. The sides of the scarf are joined in the manner of a stocking leg for six inches at one end and for eleven inches at the other. They were presumably joined throughout their length originally.
