- Woman's petticoat, 1740-1760, British; Pale blue silk satin, quilted with scrolls and flowers (en)
- Woman’s petticoat of pale blue silk taffeta, lined with undyed glazed worsted and wadded with a thin layer of wool. It is quilted in running stitch with pale blue silk thread in a narrow horizontal border of scrolls and leaves around the hem, underneath large arches with large flowers and leaves. The space above is filled with repeating curved stems with dropping flower heads. The petticoat is made of 6 panels of silk with pocket openings in the side seams, bound with ⅞-inch (2 cm) wide blue silk ribbon. The same ribbon binds the hem. There is a wide box pleat at centre front, with side pleats and an inverted box pleat at centre back with side pleats. The waist is bound with ¾-inch (1.8 cm) wide linen tape which forms the ties. - A woman's gown, 1780-85, English; beige silk brocaded in floral sprays with coloured silks, from design 5985.9, 1747, by Anna Maria Garthwaite, Spitalfields; altered 1870-1910 (en)
- A woman's gown of beige silk brocaded in floral sprays with coloured silks. The gown is open at the front with elbow-length sleeves, with a shaped, scalloped cuff on the right side. The bodice meets at the centre front. The bodice and sleeves are lined with various weights of linen. The gown is made of 4 widths of silk with a partial panel on each side of the front. The bodice is seamed to the skirts at the waist; the back is made of 4 shaped panels.
The gown has been remade and heavily pieced in the early 1780s. The green silk facings on the skirt fronts were probably added in the late 19th century; the beige silk skirt lining added later for Museum display. (en)
