Koorhekken zijn vaak rijk gedecoreerd en komen soms in een dubbele vorm voor, met gewelfbogen ertussen en een doksaal daarboven. De Franse term 'jubé' is afgeleid van Jube domine benedicere ('Heer, wil mij zegenen'), een Latijnse zin die vaak voor de mis door de katholieke priester wordt uitgesproken terwijl deze voor het scherm staat; sommige jubés zijn voorzien van een balkon of verhoging waarop de priester de gemeente toespreekt.
