- Se refiere al período y la cultura asociados con la tercera edad en el Sistema de Tres Edades desarrollado por Christian Jürgensen Thomsen en 1836. La cultura de la Edad del Hierro típicamente se desarrolló desde la Edad de Bronce desde el momento en que las cualidades del hierro fueron explotadas, particularmente a través de la carburización, en la elaboración de herramientas, armas y utensilios. Se desarrolló en épocas diferentes en diversas partes del mundo, apareciendo por primera vez en el Mediano Oriente y al sudeste de Europa alrededor del año 1200 a.C. y en China alrededor del año 600 a.C. En América, no evolucionó desde la Edad de Bronce sino que pasó directamente a las culturas de la Edad de Piedra por los exploradores europeos. (es)
- Verwijst naar de periode en cultuur die behoren tot de derde tijd in het drieperiodensysteem dat in 1836 werd ontwikkeld door Christian Jürgensen Thomsen. De cultuur van de IJzertijd ontstond meestal wanneer in de Bronstijd het punt werd bereikt waarop de kwaliteit van het ijzer vooral door carboneren, een rol ging spelen bij de vervaardiging van gereedschappen, wapens en werktuigen. De ijzertijd kwam op verschillende tijdstippen in verschillende delen van de wereld tot ontwikkeling, eerst in het Midden-Oosten en Zuidoost-Europa rond 1200 v. Chr. en rond 600 v. Chr. in China. It developed at different times in various parts of the world, first appearing in the Middle East and southeastern Europe around 1,200 BCE, and in China around 600 BCE.
