  • Het aanbrengen van verf op delen van een schilderij die al droog zijn. Kan slaan op de glazuren, dekkleuren en dergelijke die door de kunstenaar zelf zijn aangebracht. Wordt met betrekking tot recenter werk ook gebruikt in verband met conserveringswerkzaamheden die zijn uitgevoerd door een conservator, maar dient in dat geval te worden onderscheiden van 'bijschilderen'. Die term heeft namelijk betrekking op het bijwerken van delen waar de oorspronkelijke verf is verdwenen. Gebruik 'retoucheren' voor soortgelijk werk, bedoelt om schade of ongewenste kenmerken weg te werken en niet is uitgevoerd door een conservator. (nl)
