  • Schrift dat werktuiglijk wordt geproduceerd op momenten dat de persoon zijn aandacht ergens anders op heeft gericht, zowel in een waaktoestand als onder hypnose. Aan het eind van de 19de eeuw werd automatisch schrijven vaak toegeschreven aan bovennatuurlijke krachten. In de 20de eeuw werd het beschouwd als een intern fenomeen, in het bijzonder in relatie tot persoonlijkheidstheorieën.
