- Tapestry-woven portrait of Edmund Dummer. The portrait, waist length, three-quarters and facing to the right, is of a full-faced elderly man wearing a close-fitting black cap and an outer gown of red over garments of blue and cream. The background to the figure is dark brown, set in an oval frame woven in colours imitating gilding. At the bottom of the frame is a blue cartouche bearing the inscription: 'EDMUNDUS DUMMER de / Swathling in Com: Southton / GEN: Anno Domini 1701 AETAT: LXXIX'. The inscription flanks a coat-of-arms: Azure, three fleurs-de-lys or, on a chief of the second a demi-lion rampant issuant sable, with a crest. On the wreath is a demi-lion azure holding in his dexter paw a fleur-de-lys.
The weaving is in wool and silk, with 26 to 28 woollen warp threads to the inch. (en)
