De Andhra’s waren een Dravidiaanse stam die zeer machtig werd in de Deccan-regio, en die haar hoogtepunt bereikte in de 2de eeuw n. De term verwijst over het algemeen naar de oude cultuur van de Andhra’s, met name naar de cultuur van de Satavahana’s (of Satakarni), een van de meest bekende van de Andhra-dynastieën, die aan de macht kwam in de 1ste eeuw n. The Andras were a Dravidian tribal people who became extremely powerful in the Deccan region, reaching their zenith in the 2nd century CE, controlling most of India's trade routes and seaports. The term generally refers to the ancient culture of the Andhras, particularly to the culture of the Satavahanas (or Satakarni), one of the most renowned of the Andhra dynasties, who came to power in the 1st century CE and under whom Buddhism flourished. Stupas and rock-cut caves continued to be built, but they were larger and more elaborate in this period. The term can also be used to refer to the culture of this region of later centuries, not necessarily of Andhra tribes or dynasties, particularly from the tenth century, when art activity became more pervasive and the style assumed distinct Andhra characteristics. Andras era un pueblo tribal Dravidian que llegó a ser sumamente poderoso en la región de Deccan y que alcanzó su cenit en el siglo II DC, controlando la mayoría de las rutas de comercio y puertos marítimos de la India. El término generalmente se refiere a la cultura antigua de los Andhras, particularmente a la cultura Satavahanas (o Satakarni), uno de los más renombrados de las dinastías Andhra que llegaron al poder en el siglo I dc y bajo la cual el Budismo floreció. Stupas y cuevas de roca cortada continuaron siendo construidas, pero fueron más grandes y más detalladas en este período.
