A small square of lace probably cut from a larger piece. The figure in the center with helmet, spear and horn is said to be the "Dogès herald" This figure is found illustrated in "Antique Laces of American Collectors" by Frances Morris and Marion Hague plate 41 (in the piece illustrated are also mermaids, sea-horses, dolphins etc.) The ground is made up of delicately curling vines connected by brides decorated with rosettes typical of roselline lace.
