woven silk and metal thread bordered with woven silk with impressed lines, backed with printed cotton and faced with woven silk. Dark blue satin ground densely patterned with alternating rows of floral sprays [with an iris] in green, pink and metal thread [silver strip open S-wound on a white silk core]. Each spray bends gracefully - each row alternates direction. The sprays are surrounded by small flowers and butterflies which form a broken lattice-like background. Border: pieced plain weave pink silk woven with off-set, widely spaced bands of floral sprays in green, blue and brown. Impressed lines form hexagons around the motifs. Backing: pieced from two similar but different fabrics. Yellow plain weave cotton. The larger section is printed with alternating rows of botehs all facing to the right made up of floral sprigs separated bu crescent-shaped floral bands; the other section has similar bands of flower-filled botehs but facing to the left, each contained within a hexagon of vermicular lines.
